Invisalign

Invisalign is one of the best orthodontic treatments for people who don’t want a fixed brace and want something virtually invisible. If you are just starting out on your Invisalign journey then we have put together a list of the key things you need to know about Invisalign.

You will need to wear your Invisalign for 22 hours a day. Invisalign works differently to fixed braces which cannot be removed and so apply pressure on your teeth 24/7 to move your teeth into the correct position. But because Invisalign is removable the results of your treatment can be down to you and how long you keep the aligner in for. We recommend that you wear them for at least 20-22 hours a day and remove them only while you are eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth.

Cleanliness is everything when it comes to Invisalign aligners. You will need to keep your aligners and your teeth clean throughout treatment. Make sure to clean your Invisalign aligners daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them with warm water afterwards. You can also use the Invisalign cleaning crystals to clean your aligners. It’s important that you also brush and floss your teeth before you wear your aligners. If food particles in your teeth get trapped inside your aligners it can generate plaque build-up.

We recommend that you don’t eat and drink while wearing aligners. Not only does this go hand-in-hand with cleanliness, but you wouldn’t want to break your aligners and risk delaying your treatment time further. Always remove your aligners before eating and drinking anything other than water. Your aligners are not designed to take pressure from chewing and they can get stained with food and drinks.

When you’re not wearing your Invisalign make sure to keep it stored in the case provided. Invisalign aligners are transparent so it can be very easy to damage or lose them if you don’t put them in the case when you remove them.

Don’t expose your Invisalign aligner to heat. If you drink anything hot or rinse your aligners in hot water they are likely to become soft and warped meaning they won’t be able to do their job at aligning your teeth.

Never skip or delay your appointment with your orthodontist. They need to monitor the progress of your Invisalign treatment and make changes if required. It’s always better to book your appointment in advance for efficient progress of your treatment.

Finally, one of the best things about Invisalign treatment is that it’s virtually invisible. So you don’t need to let orthodontic treatment stop you from doing anything you’d normally do. Make sure to keep smiling because more often than not other people won’t even notice you’ve got them in!
