braces

Not a lot of people like going to the Dentist. With the bright lights, prodding and poking it can be quite an unpleasant experience. Unfortunately for people with braces, they also have to do to the Orthodontist as well.

But we mustn’t forget the number of benefits that having braces can have too. They are an awesome invention that allow people of all ages to love their smile and feel confident.

So here’s a list of all the reasons why braces aren’t so bad:

Benefit 1 - Straight Teeth

Now, we know this seems a little obvious but it’s the reason people get braces in the first place and so naturally deserves a place on the list. Remember, no matter how long you wait it is worth it because getting your braces off feels wonderful.

Benefit 2 - Help with Digestion

A lot of people don’t know this, but if your teeth are not straight then your mouth has more difficulty chewing food into small pieces. Larger pieces of food are harder and take longer to digest than if you were able to chew properly in the first place. Get braces, your stomach will thank you.

Benefit 3 - Proportion Your Face

Braces don’t just straighten teeth. They can also straighten your face… kinda. Some of us are unlucky enough to have a misaligned jaw resulting in an overbite, underbite, unpronounced lips/ jaw, etc. Wearing braces can move your face structure to be better proportioned. How cool!

Benefit 4 - Improves Speech

Okay, yes this sounds unrealistic but it’s actually true. Disproportionate teeth can have an impact on the way we say and pronounce words. Braces can help move teeth into better positions so that words can be spoken more clearly (once they’re off of course).

Benefit 5 - Prevent Gum Disease

Gum disease = trouble. Gum disease can be easily brought on if you don’t correctly take care of your teeth and gums, and trust us when we say it’s not nice to have. However, braces can help space teeth out allowing you brush and floss with more access to those hard to reach spaces in between your teeth.

So if you were unsure about braces before, hopefully this has eased your mind. Braces are not these horrible things that people often mistake them for, they are fantastic for your oral health and confidence too. That’s something worth smiling for!
