How To Prepare For Brace Treatment | Oldham | Manchester OrthodonticsHow To Prepare For Brace Treatment | Oldham | Manchester Orthodontics

Perfectly straight teeth are made using braces, which are usually recommended by your dentist during childhood. This doesn’t mean that you can’t start treatment as an adult. If you are thinking about choosing braces then we think that reading this blog will be a good idea so you’ll know what you need to do to prepare for the treatment.

Book a Consultation

If you are above the age of 18 then you will not be eligible for free brace treatment on the NHS which means that you will have to seek private treatment. Your dentist may recommend an Orthodontic practice to you or you may have to do your own research. When you do find a practice you will then need to call and book an initial consultation with an Orthodontist. To book a consultation with us call 0161 768 0931 or fill in a contact form here

During the consultation, the orthodontist will take a look at your teeth and suggest which brace they think would be best for you. They will also go through all of the braces that are available. You will then have photographs and impressions of your teeth taken which the orthodontist will use to write a treatment plan based on the treatment you choose.

Don’t Read Online Stories

It’s easy to read the wrong information online when researching the treatment you are going to have. If you have any questions about the treatment you are choosing, we suggest you give us a call or ask during your next visit as searching the internet isn’t the best idea. The online stories you read are not always true, so please trust the professionals.

Stock Up On Soft Foods

After you have had your braces fitted you probably won’t feel up to eating hard or chewy foods that may put extra pressure on your teeth. As you won’t have felt pressure on your teeth before, the pressure of braces will need to take some getting used to. Eating softer foods such as soups, yoghurt and cooked vegetables are best for the first few days of having your braces.

Other things you will need to stock up on in preparation for your brace treatment are orthodontic wax which is applied around the brackets and wires of your braces to prevent irritation on your gums, cheeks and tongue. Another thing you will need are interdental brushes which can be used to make brushing hard to reach areas of your teeth and braces easier.

Visit Your Dentist

If you feel you may have a cavity, it is always a good idea to arrange a visit to your dentist so that cavities can be treated with fillings. If you have your braces fitted whilst you have a cavity, your appliance will need to be temporarily removed while you have the cavity treated.

At Oldham Orthodontics we have a range of races available including metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, Invisalign and functional braces. If you have any questions about these braces or want to book a consultation, give us a call on 0161 768 0931.
